Cool Cats on Wheels; the Menโ€™s Race!

The women’s race was quite something! Read the article, or even better, go see a women’s pro road race!

So, the guys…. Their race was cooler, quieter but just as gruelling and torturous… and the rains came later in the race to make those lovely cobbles all slimy and slippy ๐Ÿ™‚

Having joined the men’s race on their 2nd climb of the Haaghoek, the skies were still dry and the riders’ kits shone brightly. Omega Pharma-QuickStep team led the chasing peloton for their Niki Terpstra… (click photos to enlarge)

Even the winner of the day, Team Sky’s Ian Stannard,ย  would have no idea how hard he was going to be pushed by BMC’s Greg Van Avermaet towards the end!

I love the IAM Cycling team kit, so here’s a little dedication to them as Martin Elmiger shows it off. They also tragically lost a team rider a few weeks ago – Belgian cyclist Kristof Goddaert – who was hit by a bus and killed whilst training in Antwerp.

The green dye in the Belkin team kit plays with my eyes! Not sure if I like it yet ๐Ÿ˜‰

The FDJ team kit is very cool this year. I like it so much I even photographed the car logo… ๐Ÿ™‚

I was a little spooked to find Giant-Shimano’s Dries Devenyns staring right into the camera as he pedaled by. I hope I contributed to his luck getting 8th place! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And on the Molenberg, Niki Terpstra sets a grinding pace to gain time on the ‘lethally wet’ cobbles, with Belkin’s Lars Boom gripping his bars for dear life.

Sky’s Edvald Boasson Hagen focuses on his pursuit.

With BMC hot on his heels – Taylor Phinney and Greg Van Avermaet.

Boasson Hagen’s teammate and future race winner, Ian Stannard (right), makes his way up the Molenberg in a whole world of pain… and this is just the beginning of his hell to victory!

And just a couple of more photos of grimace and determination!

Mirko Selvaggi.

Ag2r-La Mondiale’s Damien Gaudin.

You must have made quite an impression on Devenyns ๐Ÿ˜‰
    Great pics & story!

    • Glad you liked the articles, and I hope they bring you closer to Belgium whilst away!
And yeah, pretty spooky with Devenyns… I was using the sports function on my Canon, so captured him in several frames looking right through me ๐Ÿ˜‰
